Fish & Gorham cousins...

A distant cousin of mine in Western Australia knows that I am
interested in anyone, especially Fishes, who came from the Cape. She
is a research assistant in a maritime library in the city of
Fremantle, and occasionally sends me interesting tidbits. This one
arrived today, and I'm hoping one of his descendants is aboard:

>> Another member of the Fish family has come to light in Fremantle and
>> is buried in the Fremantle Cemetery! Again in doing some research
>> came across the following:
>>
>>
>> Phineas Fish, Master of US ship John Coggleshall, died 16.3.1856 (37).

Now I then dug a little, and it appears to me that he might be the
Phineas baptised in mid-1819 in the West parish church in the town of
Barnstable, son of David FISH & wife Anna (--?--). Phineas married
Lydia B. GORHAM 10 Sept 1848 at Nantucket. His marriage record in the
Nantucket vital records reads:

FISH, Phineas, single, 28, mariner, of N[antucket], b. Barnstable to
David and Anna of Barnstable, and Lydia B. GORHAM, 21, of N[antucket],
b. N[antucket], d. John and Susan of N[antucket], Sept 10 1848 in
N[antucket].
[Lydia B., d. John of Barnstable and Susan (Gorham), Private records #38]

I just checked the census for 1850 on Nantucket, and found them living
with Lydia's mother Susan:

US Federal Census, Nantucket, MA, 13 Sep 1850, p. 368, lines 31-39:

> Susan GORHAM, 63, b. MA [Massachusetts]
> Peter H CHASE, 31, mariner, b MA
> Susan S, 25, b. MA
> Phineas FISH, 29, b. MA, mariner
> Lydia B, 21, b. MA
> Charles G, 11/12, b. MA
> James F CATHCART, 28, mariner, b. MA
> Charlotte M, 19, b MA
> Lydia C, 2, b MA

If anyone can add anything to this, I'd be pleased to hear about it;
descendant or ancestors of Phineas & Lydia.

Cheers,
Bobbie
