Subject: [MABRISTO] Fall River Centennial Celebrations

Family legend has it that there was an article in "the newspaper" during the
"centennial celebration" about my Grandfather, James J. GRIFFIN and how he
had bought a house "up the Globe" and with the help of a team of horses moved
it to its then (centennial time) location on Broadway in Fall River.

Problems are: 1) Nobody knows which newspaper; 2) Nobody knows which
centennial.

I know there was a "Cotton Centennial in 1911 (100 years after the first
cotton mill was opened near Globe Corners) and another in 1954 for the 100th
anniversary of Fall River's incorporation as a city. Can anyone tell me if
there were any other 100-year festivities marking perhaps the Pocasset
Purchase, the Battle of Fall River (1778), the separation from Freetown in
1803, or the rise or fall of the city of Troy? If so, does anyone know the
exact dates of the celebrations or what newspapers were published at those
times?

Any help would be appreciated.
