I was re-entering the birth place for John Springer (abt.1725 d. 1813) using
the genealogy program (Legacy.5.0) and a pop up box within that program,
told me Newport,Newport,Rhode Island did not exist at that time.

It said, "Newport County did not exist in 1725 in the State of Rhode Island.
So now it confirms what I have always believe the vital
Some records must be somewhere else. Was it Massachusetts Bay Colony, or
Plymouth County.

Makes me ponder. I know Portsmouth (1636) was the first town in Rhode
Island.

Can you suggest a strategy in locating any vital records or town records for
Newport before is was officially established.
