If you have ever uploaded a tree to ancestry, your information will be used
in OWT but it will not be amended if you make changes. Updates are treated
as if they represent ALL new material. So the "billions of names" is really
not billions at all, but repetition of the same folks, depending on how
often you take your tree off the site for corrections, then resubmit. Even
if you completely remove your research from ancestry, if they have already
captured it for OWT, there it shall remain.
It's also a downer that many of the email addresses connected to the
information are defunct. It makes checking sources a real problem.
I think we're supposed to refrain from griping bec Ancestry keeps rootsweb
free. Still, it's misinformation that can really do major damage if you
take it as gospel.
