Well, forget about what I said. Should have kept reading, lol.
You are right, if you have copies of the Madison County court record, keep
working on them if you can. BTW, if you don't mind making a second set of
copies whenever you duplicate things, I would be more than happy to pay you
for them (including postage and your time of course).
While you are working on the Madison County records, I am going to continue
poking around in Amherst County, VA.
Do you think the T.D. Crews might be the Thomas Crews that I located on the
Amherst census for 1810?
What's interesting is that you are finding records for Anderson Crews in
Madison County around 1810, and there is an Anderson Crews enumerated in
Amherst County in 1810. Now that you are indicating that there are two
Anderson Crews' (possibly father and son) that makes more sense to me.
Anxiously awaiting the rest of your results :)

Fabulous work Rita!! It's a lot to go thru, so I will comment as I
understand things - also as quick as I can because my laptop is on battery
right now and not plugged in.
I have a comment about your question:
"But the one that "bothers" me is the 8th entry that says: "9 January 1840.
Anderson L. Crews to George W. Pettyjohn... $5.00 and love of Amherst County
for his wife, Deborah, and children--sent to T.D. Crews, 16 June 1847...
...Does anyone know anything about this Anderson and his first marriage? Or
even his 2nd one to Deborah? According to one entry, dated Nov 22, 1818, he
was already married to Deborah."
My thought is that Deborah is the wife of George Pettyjohn or T.D. Crews.
Maybe I'm missing something, but that's the way I read the post. Perhaps
Anderson is giving the money as a gift to a widow - maybe Deborah is the
widow of George or T.D.
What do you think?
