>From the hills of northwest Connecticut...............

Just a few days ago I awoke to the sound of birds gaily chirping and that unmistakable smell of spring in the air. That afternoon I received my first seed catalog and it filled my head with thoughts of planting peas by St. Patrick's Day. That was soon replaced by long lines at the grocery stores, shelves emptied of milk and bread and a last minute dash to fill the propane tank to the barbeque just in case.............

It's 6:00 AM and we have just a few inches of snow at the moment but the governor has (as of an hour ago) banned tractor trailers from our roads so I guess as far as groceries go - what you see is what you get. So what's to do after getting the candles out and checking the flashlight batteries? Get out the cribbage board and bring a jigsaw puzzle down from the attic. Maybe work on the hooked rug I started two years ago or start a quilt for the new grandbaby due in October.

As a Connecticut Yankee all my life I've learned to go with the flow so for now I'll shelve that seed catalog and hunker down under my favorite quilt, sip hot chocolate and say a silent prayer that everyone effected by the storm will ride it out without consequence.

My best to all,

Laura Allen
