Hello, Beth --
Several years ago we visited the Ipswich Library. They had a gold mine of info about the genealogy of Ipswich families. There is a large collection of family group sheets, collected into loose leaf binders according to surname; maybe there is a "correct" name, but I've used the term "Darling papers," after the man who compiled them. My recollection is that the Darling papers (and other genealogy books dealing
with the period you're researching) treat the present town of Essex as Chebacco, which was part of Ipswich.
There was some remodeling after our visit, which I presume is now complete. It might be worth a phone call to confirm that the library, and its genealogy collection, are open. If so, you'll probably find your time there well spent.
You are having problems with the same period that gave us all kinds of trouble. The four families that have given us the most grief were Lufkin, Lord (both in Ipswich/Gloucester area), Brown (Lynn) and Robinson (Vermont>Maine). We still haven't sorted out the Brown and Robinson lines.

The vitals are not listed in the "tan books" or cd. It seems as if all their predecessors were documented back into the mid 1600's but perhaps the turbulent times pushed record keeping onto the back burner, where it stayed for awhile?
