I have just had a bad experience which I feel I should share with the lists.
Last year I subscribed to ANCESTRY. I found it of little/no use to me.
Probably that is because I have been working on my lines for over thirty
years. My ancestors came to this country prior to 1660, so I have been able
to find most of my answers rather readily, thanks to this and other lists.
My ancestors liked New England so much that they never left. (One line went
to New York many years ago, but they weren't there very long before they
re-moved to Vermont.)
Anyway, in May I contacted ANCESTRY to tell them I did not want to re-new my
subscription. They sent me a phone number to call. I never managed to reach
them until yesterday, as their hours are 8-5 MDT and only M-F. I have been
tied up helping to care for my 90 year old mother who broke her arm and I
couldn't be on 'hold' for any length of time. Yesterday I outwaited
them---over 20 minutes---only to be told that I was re-subscribed as of June
29, and that there is NO WAY I can get out of another year. I think that
unfair. I would be willing to pay for a month, if they said I should, but I
think another year is a bit too much. They said I should have notified them
fifteen days in advance if I didn't wish to re-subscribe.
So, please watch your subscription dates and be careful about using your
credit card, as they may re-subscribe you when you don't expect it.
