Beth:
I don't have an answer to most of your questions, but do see that you are
seeking Knowltons. I have Knowltons in my my father's
Arnold/Lyon/Trowbridge lines in Eastford, Windham Co, CT. I have not
traced my Knowlton line (I'm working still on more closely-related lines,
but as I work my way back, would like to stay in touch with you on that
family. (My mother's family was mainly from the Byfield area (Rowley,
Newbury, Georgetown) of Essex Co., centered around the Byfield Parish
church.
Haven't been to Essex (the town) (no relatives from there, yet), but I
did visit the Ipswich library to get more information on my Eben Jewett
who moved there with or because of (likely) his brother in law, Ira
Worcester. (At least Eben Jewett was from Byfield). The Ipswich library
is a lovely, old building w/small but nice genealogical materials in
their genealogy room in the basement. Don't know the hours.
BTW -- It was here that I saw a published genealogy on the Knowlton
family. I only copied pages relative to my distant Knowlton family, who
trace their roots back to MA, but it might be a help to you in giving you
clues.
