This is something I just came across as I was straightening up my bookcase
and thought it would be fun to share:

ESSEX COUNTY

I love the rolling hills of Essex County,
The pasture slopes where cedar troops deploy,
The mills ponds basking in the sunlight's bounty,
And meadow brooks that lure the adventurous boy.
I love the gently winding Parker River
And tributaries flooded by the tide --
Where haystacks rise above the marsh, and ever
At dusk great herons come, and downward glide.
I love the sand dunes, sun-bleached on Plum Island,
Where beach grass flaunts its sabres towards the
sea --
The surf-lashed rocks that guard Cape Ann's bleak

highland --
And old elm-shaded homesteads, dear to me,
Whose English forebears here, in years long ended,
Toiled, till the landscape with their England blended.

From "New England Sonnets" by William Plumer Fowler
