Thats good information gathering,
im new at this and am still feeling my way around. My Cousin actually got
the information about Theron from the Clerks office i guess. i have two of
his Marriage certificates and his birth certificate, all list his Parents as
James Hillier jr and Mary Elizabeth Babson. The Babson Geneology Book also
list Mary Elizabeth Babson as marrying James Hillier jr. just was wondering
about your finding of it listed as Magaret E Babson.

and Theron did not just appear when he married Nellie Reed in Beverly.
I looked in the Beverly VRs and found the marriage. Theron was 22 and
this was his second marriage. I then found his first marriage, the
death of his first wife and his birth in the Gloucester Vital Records.
A records on the fiche by Jay Holbrook of Oxford Research. If you are
not interested in the details, just delete the rest.
I don't know where bob miller looked for the birth of Theron Hillier but
is was not easy to find. The original Births Book 11 1869 - 1872 has
the births entered by Month rather than by year. 1869 Jan, 1870 Jan,
1871 Jan,...., 1869 Feb, 1870 Feb etc. I did not find an index to the
original book 11. However in 1903? a transcription was made of Book 11
and I found him in the index. The original and transcription agreed.
Someone thought that Theron might be Acadian. Hillier shows in
Gloucester about 1816. Similar names occur back in the 17th century in
Lynn and Salem. There are references to Boston and Falmouth England in
the Gloucester VRs.
Here is what I found on Theron Hillier:
Birth: Vol 11, Page 10 28 jan 1871, Theron Hillier son of James
Hillier, a clerk and Mary E Babson both born Gloucester

Julia Reed.
The parents of James Jr. were probably James and Sarah Wonson who were
married in Gloucester 25 Dec 1816. There is no birth of a James Hillier,
or Hillyard or variations in Essex County in the late 1700s but this is
not unusual. The recording of births after the Revolution and up to
1840 were not as regular as before and after.
Sarah Wonson may be the Sally Millet Wonson dau of Sam, bp 16 Sep 1798
CR1, First Parish Church.
Also james may have been born outside of Essex County.
