>I got such great help last time with my queries, I thought I'd throw out
another one. As in the subject line, I have Elizabeth Emery born 31 Jan
1679
in Newbury. She married John Kelly in 1696.
I THINK my Elizabeth's father was Sgt. John Emery. In the Newbury VR,
there
are 11 children born between 1652 and 1679 with the parents John and Mary.
At first I thought it was Mary WEBSTER (nee Shatswell) but didn't she marry
JONATHAN Emery? And he was the stepfather to her children? So I don't
think
she spent 27 more years being pregnant.
What other Mary might be a candidate for my Elizabeth's mother? I know
there's an Emery book out there - can some kind soul check it? On the
family
trees on World Connect, most of them have John's wife as Mary Webster -
only
one says NOT Webster. Was there a Mary Webster who wasn't a widow? Help!
Thanks in advance

Hi, Karen.
I went to http://www.familysearch.com and found Elizabeth Emery, b. 31 Feb.
1679
at Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts, daughter of John Emery, no mother
named, Batch no. C500321, source "Vital Records of Newbury, Massachusetts
to
the End of the year 1849.
To repeat my message to Molly Webster, the wife of John/2 Emery is unknown.
Hoyt, Mary Lovering Holman (1938), and Walter Goodwin Davis all state that
Mary/2
Webster was the wife of John/2 Emery. Hope you caught my message to Molly
for the full titles. Then, in an article in TAG, 1940, Clarence Almon
Torrey disagreed,
arguing that the wife of John/2 Emery is unknown. Robert Charles Anderson,
in
his "The Great Migration Begins", agrees with Torrey.
Someone, someday, may just find fame by discovering the identity of the
wife of John/2 Emery!
Claudia Cridland
Another non-descendant of John/2 Emery!
