Mimi,
I tried the link and had no problem until I got a notice of "Browser
Incompatibility." This had to do with cookies. I keep my security level at
Medium-High. I temporarily lowered it to Medium and was still unable to get
past the incompatibility notice.
Under no circumstances will I lower it any lower nor do I recommend going
to any site where that problem exists. Internet Explorer 6 does allow
setting of safe sites. However, this requires that the URL begin with
https://. The "s" designating a secure site. This did not seem to be
available at the HeritageQuest site. This is the information from
HeritageQuest/ProQuest regarding their use of cookies:
We at ProQuest Information and Learning understand the recent concern over
the use of cookies. A lot of negative press has been generated about the
"invasion of privacy" that many people believe cookies represent.
We use cookies in HeritageQuest Online to enable critical features like
search history, notebook, and other state-based services. By enabling these
features, we are able to deliver a more useful site to you.
These cookies are not used in any way to collect marketing information, or
any other online behavior. We also make sure that the cookies that we use
are destroyed as soon as you exit your browser. No information is stored on
your computer after you are done browsing, and no unauthorized files are
written on your disk drives. In no way do we intend to invade your privacy
or collect any unsolicited information.
Thank you for visiting ProQuest Information and Learning.
It is my personal belief that they can do without the use of the cookies.
If a visitor does not wish the cookies, then they simply can't have the
search history, etc. This is their option and should be honored by
HeritageQuest.
Each person must make their own decision on the kind of security that they
want for their computer when accessing the internet - even well established
reputable sites such as this one.
