Others have provided information on the Witter family.
My interest is in Thomas Wheeler and his family. See:
http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/textindices/M/MAESSEX+2003+352605717+F
(Looking at the Wheeler family chapter in History of Stonington (which
was published in 1900, not 1909 as my message above said) I see
that there is evidently also a chapter on the Witter family. But I don't
have that.)
H of S says that Thomas Wheeler had ch.:
Isaac b. 1646
Elizabeth b. 1648
Sarah b. 1650
But I found that Isaac and Zippora were bap. at Salem 19, 9 mo. [Nov] 1648.
So, Elizabeth wouldn't have been born in 1648. Since she married on
25: 12 m: 1661 [25 Feb 1661/2] (Lynn VR), then she was probably
born before 1648 rather than after. So, say 1646 -- thus switching the order
of Isaac and Elizabeth. The family was apparently living in Salem at that time.
Thomas Wheeler appears several times in Records and Files... :
http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/salem/witchcraft/Essex/
(Be sure to see vol 8 in which he swears a deposition in 1680
at Stonington.)
Thanks to David Hoffman who reminded me that the Public Records
of the Colony of Conn. are online at:
http://www.colonialct.uconn.edu/ChooseVolume.cfm
If you look in Vol 2 under Thomas Wheeler, you will see on
pp. 104-105 that both Thomas Wheeler and Josiah Witter became
freemen May 13, 1669. So, I assume they all moved to Conn. together.
The published VR of Lynn show that Elizabeth and Josiah Witter had:
Elizabeth b. 15: 1 mo; 1662 [15 Mar 1662/3]
Mary b. 12 mo 1664 [Feb 1664/5]
NEHGR 81:258 adds:
Ebenezer b. 28 May 1668
Regards,
Howard
