Those "face pictures" are actually called emoticons. If you do a search for
"emoticon," you find a bunch of websites, such as
http://www.windweaver.com/emoticon.htm.

and their codes on-line?

i.e. I think
:) represents a smiley face and
:-) represents a sad face or maybe a frown
