John,

Because orthography, as we know, can be very arbitrary, I tried GROTH on the
Essex County VR CD, and I discovered a Jan. 7, 1673 marriage for John GROTH
and Elizabeth EATON in Salisbury VR 381. Salisbury VR shows a birth of a
daughter, Elizabeth, to John and Elizabeth GROTH on July, 29, 1674.

Although I did not find a death record, perhaps John GROTH died and the
widow, Elizabeth, married William HUTCHINS. Checking further, I found that
this is what David W. Hoyt asserts in OLD FAMILIES OF SALISBURY AND
AMESBURY. Hoyt adds: "John Groth [or Grath], 'a German,' of Salisbury
...was allowed by the court to practice 'physick and chyrurgerie' in 1679."

Hoyt also claims that the Elizabeth EATON who married John GROTH was the
daughter of John and Martha (ROWLANDSON) EATON of Salisbury.

I hope this gives you some additional leads to follow.
