Subject: name change request in the Andover newspaper
Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 21:25:11 EDT
Speaking of name changes. Here is a probate petition published in the Andover
Advertiser in 1856. Personally I think its a reasonable request .... :)
and we think our courts are clogged up now ????
May 22, 1856 :
To the Honorable Nathaniel S. Howe, Judge of Probate for the County of Essex.
Benjamin F. Jenkins and Abigail F. Jenkins his wife, of North Andover, in
said county of Essex, respectfully makes application for a change of her name,
that she may bear the name of Abby F. Jenkins, for the following reason, viz.
because the name Abby is shorter and more agreeable to them than Abigail.
Dated at North Andover this fourth day of March, A.D. 1856.
signed Benjamin F. Jenkins and
Abigail F. Jenkins
ESSEX ss. At a Court of Probate holden at Salem, in and for said County, on
the first Tuesday in March, A.D., 1856.
On the Foregoing Application, Ordered that the first Tuesday in April next,
ten of the clock before noon, be assigned as the time for considering the same,
at a Court of Probate then to be holden in Salem, in said county, and that
the applicants give notice to all parties interested by causing an attested copy
of said application with this order, to be published three weeks successively
before said time, in the Andover Advertiser, printed in Andover, that they
may appear and show cause, if any they have, why the application should not be
granted.
N.S. Howe, Judge of Probate, a true copy of record
attest. James Ropes, Registrar, March 15-30
