My mother (after years of pooh-poohing my interest in genealogy <vbg>) has
taken an interest in at least a bit of her family history. And she had some
questions I couldn't answer.....Needless to say, this interest has developed
just after my annual research trip to Boston, when I could have looked at
sources myself more easily.

Since it happened in 1896/7, I doubt anyone here is old enough to remember
the trial of William Kennedy, who was accused of trying to poison Albert F.
Learoyd, as Kennedy thought Learoyd was mistreating his wife, Jessie Sears.

Albert and Jessie Learoyd ran a farm on Maple St that had belonged to the
Putnam family (Albert's mother was Helen Putnam, 1842-1933, daughter of
Francis Perley Putnam and Pamelia Upton; Francis's parents were Jesse Putnam
and Elizabeth Merriam, while Pamelia was also a Putnam
descendant.....Francis and Pamelia were cousins <and 4th cousins, and 5th
cousins, and 6th cousins....almost all through the Putnams>). Does anyone
know when that house (now a veterinarian's office, I think) was built? I
think there may have been an article in the Danvers Historical Society
magazine about the various and sundry Putnam houses, but I don't seem to
have photocopies of it.

Also, if anyone has more details about Kennedy's trial, or would be willing
to do some look-ups at the Salem courthouse about it, I'd be very happy to
have the information.

Many thanks,
BJ
