Listers,
I descend from James Saxby who married Lucy Thissel on 1 May 1783 Beverly,
Essex Co, MA.
Lucy Thissel was born 14 June 1762 Beverly and died 15 Jan 1811 Beverly, the
daughter of William Thissel (31 May 1723 Beverly, MA - 13 May 1778 Beverly,
MA) and Sarah Peters (19 Dec 1722 Gloucester, MA - 6 Jan 1814 Beverly, MA).
The known children of James and Lucy (Thissel) Saxby were:
James Saxby Jr. b 12 mar 1784 Beverly, MA
*Mark Saxby b 4 Dec 1785 Beverly, MA* (my ancestor)
Fanny Saxby b 4 Jan 1787 Beverly, MA
After Lucy (Thissel) Saxby's death 14 Jan 1811 Beverly, MA, James Saxby Sr.
moved to NY with his son, Mark Saxby, and probably died in Cortland County,
NY. I have been unable to find any death record or cemetery records for
James, but to the best of my guess, he probably died ca 1831 Cortland
County, NY.
The first sign I have of James Saxby is his marriage to Lucy Thissel in 1783
Beverly. I have gone through the Beverly town records and tax records
filmed by the LDS library, only to find James Saxby paying tax in the town
of Beverly in 1783. Other than the one siting of him paying tax in 1783, I
am not finding him prior or after 1783.
I am at a complete loss as to where James Saxby would have come from prior
to his marriage to Lucy Thissel and would appreciate any assistance and
suggestions. Lucy was born in Beverly and died there, as did her father,
William Thissel. Her mother, Sarah Peters was born in Gloucester, but other
than that, her mother also married and died in Beverly.
Any and all assistance and suggestions greatly appreciated. I have worked
on James Saxby for years, never finding anything new.
