in the 1920 Census, I found a Joseph & Marion Demers.

Mass. Essex Co. Haverhill District 55

Living with/Listed as " Boarders" to "Gedsen G. Roy" ? & wife Corinne Roy, ages 19 & 21 respectively

Demers, Joseph age 22 immigrate 1914/Naturlized/in 1919 born in (Quebec written and crossed out) Canada Parents born in Canada (Quebec written and crossed out) occupation "Laborer" "Shoe Factory"

Dembers, Marion age 22 born in Massachusetts Parents born in Canada (Quebec written and crossed out) occupation "At Home" crossed out and "None" written above

Not sure if these are your Demers, but age matches for Joseph.
