Subject: Cemetery Crime in Newburyport

Hi everyone :-)
A while ago on this list, people were wondering about criminal sentencing
for people who had destroyed some headstones somewhere in the county. Forgive
me for not remembering the post correctly, but I know some of us were curious
as to what kind of jail time folks get for such things
I came across this article today, which is not about the same crime, but
probably an even worse one. Check out the "harsh" sentence this punk got !!

Man pleads guilty to theft from crypt
(Newburyport, MASS - AP) — A Salisbury man gets an 18-month jail sentence
for breaking into a crypt and removing remains.
Nineteen-year-old Neil Goodwin pleaded guilty today in Newburyport District
Court to charges stemming from an August 17th incident at a Newburyport
cemetery.
He'll serve that time after his one-year sentence for violation of
probation.
Goodwin pleaded guilty to charges of disinterring a body and disturbing a
grave.
Judge Peter Doyle sentenced Goodwin to two-and-a-half years in the House of
Correction, with 18 months to be served.
Upon his release, Goodwin will be on probation for three years.
Goodwin also must make restitution to the city, with the amount to be
determined at a hearing in January.
