Does the Society or anyone else have any concrete info on death date
of Anthony, Sr. Morse.
As stated before, Newbury VR [2:666] have death of "Anthony sr" 12
Oct 1686. This record has been presumed to be of Anthony, b abt 1607,
married to Ann, and came in the James, 1635.
VR (2:667] have death "Morse, Anne w Anthony Mar. 9 1679-80."
Generally, but certainly not always, "w" and not "wid" implies husband
is still alive.
Anthony Sr Will dated 29 April, 1680, prob. 23 Nov. 1686. [source
lacking at moment, only 2ndr]
The memorial gravestone in the old burying ground Newbury has him die
1678, age 60.
From other death listings, smallpox was prevalent in Newbury in
1677/8/9. Several in the family died of it.
I can't find a VR listing, but Anthony Sr's son Anthony Jr is cited as
dying 25 Feb 1677/8 [Holman, Pillsbury Ances 1938; Lord, H. Mem'l of
Morse Fam 1896; His will (clearly "Anthony Jr") is at Essex Probate
[3:218], written 3 Feb 1677/8; Proved 26 Mar 1678.
Are we safe to conclude that the Memorial Stone in Newbury is in error?
