Townships over the yrs in other areas have picked up the responsibility of cleaning and mowing the old cemetery's. Repairs can be done by others. Gen. Society, DAR, SAR.
I agree, if I was closer, it would be easy to help with the care.
We were also surprised that most of the old cemetery's have not been read and published.

Upon visiting the Linwood cemetery in Haverhill, this last September, the
older portion of the cemetery sets off to the right, surrounded by a chain link
fence, It was sad. There were animal burrows everywhere, not to mention the
downed tree branches, and broken stones. It blew me away when I proceeded to
drive straight through, I discovered the Historical Society there. At the
time it was closed, but when I got back home to Tulsa, I contacted them and was
told that the boy scouts and elementary students sometimes came in and
cleaned it up, and that there was no funding for projects like this. There is no
backside portion of the chain link fence, that surrounds the older cemetery,
it abuts a residential neighborhood. The oldest stone I found was 1666-7,
almost behind a small convience store. Times like that, I wished I lived
closer.
