When I worked on the Essex County vital records I noticed that in several
cases births were announced in a specific MA town while the parents actually
lived in NH or in ME. Perhaps a daughter chose to have her baby at her
mother's home, for instance.

If I were you I would read census sheets for the name SOPER, and concentrate
on the towns where the family/families may be found.

In my own case, I have had to research vital records at the town office
level because they were never sent to Concord where the Office of Vital Records
is located.

I live in NH, and if I can help you I would like to -- MARSHALL is a family
name, from Lynn, Salem, Danvers, and Billerica, MA.

There is atleast one MARSHALL book focusing on the families out of
Billerica. There doesn't seem to be a relationship between them and my family,
however.
