Hi,
I have never found actual Wills through the NEHGS. I am currently a lapsed
member of the NEHGS and have only found Will Indexes on their site. I found
the indexed item I sent this list on Ancestry.com today.
Actually, I am not trying to find out how to find this Will for myself but
for a distant cousin whose ancestor PAUL FAULKNER is the only child of FRANCIS
FAULKNER's mentioned in the Will. She is the one who wants it and enlisted
my help in trying to figure out how she can get a copy. (I suggested she
contact the Andover Historical Society and the Massachusetts Archives, but
thought I would see if this list might have more suggestions)
I obtained the FAULKNER Family research of CHARLOTTE HELEN ABBOTT and don't
believe I have ever shared that research with this list - which I will do now:
=================================================
THE FAULKNER FAMILY Page 6. (EARLY RECORDS OF THE FAULKNER FAMILY OF
ANDOVER by CHARLOTTE HELEN ABBOTT)
(obtained from the Andover Historical Society)
FRANCIS (2) FAULKNER and wife, ABIGAIL DANE, had: -
1) ELIZABETH (3) b. 1676; d. 1678.
2) ELIZABETH (3), 2nd., b. 1678; possibly married a BUTTERICK as we have to
account for a grandson so named. I did not find the father.
3) DOROTHY (3), b. Feb. 18, 1680; m. SAMUEL NURSE of Danvers, NOv. 25,
1708.
4) ABIGAIL (3), b. 1683; published to THOMAS LANSOM of Ipswich 1708;
was not named by her father, for some reason, but as the will gave 6 portions
she was one of the six, sd. by LAMSON historians to d. 1746.
5) FRANCES (3), b. 1686; m. her cousin, DANIEL FAULKNER, son of her uncle
JOHN (2) 1724; not named by her father, either, but one of the six.
6) EDWARD (3), b. 1688;
m. ELIZABETH MARSTON - of the ferryline near the lower bridge in Lawrence,
1715; she d. 1728;
he m. 2nd., DORCAS BUXTON of Danvers;
sold his place to AMMI (3), 1728, with all claims in the estate of FRANCIS
(2) and EDWARD (1), and left for the Salem home of his BUXTON wife. Very
likely, DOROTHY NURSE, his sister, made the match. He was not satisfied there
and seems to have bought back part of the estate of FRANCIS (2) from AMMI in
1731.
7) AMMI RUHAMAH (3), b. 1693; saved his mother's life because they dare not
kill even a witch's innocent babe. He married HANNAH INGALLS, 1726; moved to
Acton, then a part of Concord, and bought the garrison house held many years
by his family; d. about 1751.
<note: Died Aug. 4, 1756>
8) PAUL (3), b. birth - date unknown; only one named in the will;
d. 1751; married SARAH LAMSON of Ipswich, 1714; She d. 1715; he m. 2nd HANNAH
SHEFFELD; the estate adm. 1756.
January 03, 1682/83
9) EDWARD (3), above - of Andover, for 150 paid by his brother AMMI (3),
gave up all claim to the estate of father, FRANCIS, and his grandfather
EDMUND, meaning of course, the homestead - and "all buildings and land I now
hold in Andover." 1723.
1730. EDWARD (3) FAULKNER of Salem village, for L300 from AMMI, sold 6
acres of upland ahe still owned near AMMI's lot - on the highway and near JOHN
FARNUM - lot he bought of his father, FRANCIS and part of his grandfather's
lot, 2nd Division, and 1/2 of the Great Pasture.
Page 7.
A deed from FRANCIS (2) dated 1728, shows why he did not name AMMI (3) in
the will. He gave AMMI land, mowing and orchard, near two dwellings, bounded
by the highway leading to Merrimac River. My old first road to the River,
across the fields now - and near LIEUT. BEN BARKER. (the site I have just
located by a casreful study. BEN BAKER (typed BAKER, not BARKER here) the bachelor
lived many years at the head of the Pond, on the Great Haverhill road. The
ferry road ran by his house to the FAULKNER place. The land given by FRANCIS
(2) was bounded East by SAM OSGOOD - the site well known as it stands 1914 -
held by heirs - the last house on the road; the south bounds on the road to
the OSGOOD house. (this was part of the homestead land of EDMUND (1) and
FRANCIS (2) FAULKNER) Two more acres bounded on the foot of JOSEPH CARLTON's land
- East of Bradford highway near Lt. BEN BARKER's ; South on the Ministry
land - each division had parson's rights belonging to the parsonage grant; 1/2
of the Great Pasture (now in South Part of the Town); also, the West end of
the house lot; 12 th emeadow and upland East side the Shawshin near the home
of PAUL (nearer LAWRENCE site, now). He had equal share with PAUL in the
Brook; all meadows West side the Shawshin.
BEN and JOSEPH BARKER were WITNESSES.
I recalled the OSGOOD place. SAM of the next generation or so, had a a poor
idiotic child who was dangerous, a daughter and the family kept her chained
to an anvil until she died. I would hate to go down the old road to the
smiling and fine old farm-house there now, even on a sunny day in June, as she
would haunt me.
In 1730, AMMI (3) is restless also and begins to unload his paternal land.
He sold first to DEACON JOHN OSGOOD - a very rich landowner, his WHOLE farm
for L375 -- all the land he held West of Shawshin and the lands East. All
were Division Plots. He alludes to a place called Merchant's Ford on the
Shawshin - probably near its mouth - near the Power House of the Trolley car lines.
in 1730, he sells to SAMUEL CHECKERING for L848, 53 acres, near the property
of the heirs of THOMAS BARNARD, the clergyman, and a highway from the
Shawshin to STEVENS and PARKER. PARKER was the owner of the woolen mills on the
Cochechiwick Brook, and the CHICKERING site (spelled prev. CHECKERING) is well
known. At that time AMMI still had something left, I presume, and was living
on the home place, which OSGOOD did not buy - as he purchased only the farm
lands.
In Vol. 60. page 194 - may be found a record of the sale of AMMI, back to
his brother EDWARD. 1731. "EDWARD FAULKNER of Salem, Laborer (so-called
because he had no estate there) for L300. bought of his brother AMMI, the house
and grounds - land on road to Merrimac River; SAM OSGOOD's on the North and
more land lying on the BRADFORD Road, - he bought of father, FRANCIS, 1728; and
"a hovel or shop at my barn he is to take away."
Still, EDWARD (3) died at Salem, 1733 - see probate 318:103. SAM NURSE was
adm. of the estate there, and sold it for funds for EDWARD's children, as he
was guardian. JOHN PUTNAM and WALTER SMITH were named as buyers. Widow
DORCAS, held 1/3 at the settlement. In hunting for children of ED (3) I find only
a son JOHN (4), who apparently dies single and childless, 1747. None of
the deeds of the sale to PUTNAM and SMITH name Andover land at all - so, between
1731 and 1733, AMMI (3) must have got the land back again.
ROBINSON occasionally parts with land he held near the original FAULKNER
lots - sold meadow of the estate in 1754.

Thanks for the suggestion.
