Dear List:

By now, I should know better than to write mail when I am so tired.  I got my Marys mixed up in my last post.  Given the number of Marys involved, I hope you will pardon me!

The administration of the estate of the second wife and widow of Rev. Nathaniel Rogers (d. 8 May 1775) was for Mary BURNAM Rogers who d. 18 September 1779.  Mary DANE was the third wife of Nathaniel Farley, his first wife having been Elizabeth Cogswell.  Mary Wise was his second.

Nathaniel Farley and Jonathan Cogswell paid twenty shillings for the care and education of their wives, Mary and Elizabeth Wise, during their minority to the estate of Rev. Nathaniel Rogers.  This was because their mother Mary (Denison) Wise had died shortly after giving birth to Elizabeth in 1744, and Essex Probate File # 30194, dated 15 June 1757, is for the Guardianship of Mary and Elizabeth Wise.  This has to mean that Daniel Wise has died, but I have been unable to find any record of his death.  (It is surely in that Probate File, but thanks to Hurricane IKE, I won't be ordering that file any time soon.)  The only living maternal relative was the (then living) grandmother, Mary (née Leverett) (Denison) Rogers, and she died in 1756.

After paying the twenty shillings for their wives' care, they received for their wives 100 pounds which was the residual of John 6 Denison's legacy (half his estate) to his mother.

Even with the "playbook" this story is so hard to follow that it nearly drove me nuts.
