Ireland.2 Descendants of Michael McClellan and Jane Henry of Colrain Mass.,

Michael McClellan and his wife, Jane Henry came to America with the Henry
families and probably other, about 1749. They came from Maghera, County
Derry, Ireland. Michael was probably the son of Hugh McClellan, who died in
that place in 1739.
He bought land in Colrain near the first settlement, and built a log cabin
on it. Eight children came with him, including the eldest daughter, Jennet,
who was already married to Joseph Thompson. Sometime during or after 1753,
alarmed by Indian attacks, he removed to Pelham, where he died in 1757.

Descendants of Michael McClellan and Jane Henry of Colrain Mass., by Lois
McClellan Patrif. 1970. p. 1.
Michael McClellan came to America with his brother John and eight of his 10
children in 1749. Michael, his wife and their children spent some time in
Woburn or Worcester, Mass, and soon settled in Colran, where they had friends
and relatives. Michael bought a fifty-acre lot from Andrew Smith and built a
house on it. At the beginning of the French and Indian War in 1750, when
Indian attacks began to be made in the vicinity, he removed with his family
and several others to Pelham, a less exposed town. His resources being soon
exhausted, he secured work lumbering on the river. The exposure brought on
pneumonia, from which he died in 1757. The whereabouts of his grave in
unknown. Michael McClellan was said to have been slim, fair-haired and
blue-eyed, and to have "been much on the water."

He was married to Jane HENRY (daughter of David HENRY).6 Jane HENRY was born
about 1710.7 She died on August 13, 1777 in Colrain, Franklin,
Massachusetts.8,9 She was buried in Chandler Hill Cemetery, Colrain,

Sister of Hugh, John, Robert and James, was born in Ireland about 1710, the
daughter of David Henry. The family returned from Pelham in 1760, and the
oldest son, Hugh, then only 16, began to clear and work his father's farm.
Jane lived with him and his family until her death, August 13, 1777.

McClellan Patrif. 1970. p. 1.
Jane was small, auburn haired, of a very active temperament, and
indomitable will of courage. After the death of Michael his widow was left
in very straitened circumstances. Most of her children were very young, the
oldest boy, Hugh, was only thirteen, but he and the older girls did all they
could for the widow and younger children.
They removed to Deerfield, probably to be near Jane's brother James, and
the family kept together there until the war ended in 1760. In that year
they returned to Colrain, where Hugh began the arduous task of clearing his
father's land. Jane Henry lived with her son Hugh and his wife Sarah until
her death. Michael MC CLELLAN and Jane HENRY had the following children:

+4 i. Jennet MC CLELLAN (born in 1730).
+5 ii. Mary MC CLELLAN (born about 1734).
+6 iii. Ann MC CLELLAN (born in 1736).
+7 iv. Margaret MC CLELLAN (born about 1738).

During the Indian troubles he withdrew with the McClellan's to Pelham,
where 4 of his children were born. About 1760, he returned to Colrain,
having bought a houselot from William Henry in the first division, July 1759.
He bought Lot 56, 100 acres in the second division, about 1768 and engaged
in farming. He served in his brother-in-law's (Hugh McClellan's) company of
minutemen during the revolution.

McClellan Patrif. 1970. p. 3.
Joseph & Jennet came to America with Jennet's parnets, settled briefly in
Colrain, and went to Pelham with the McClellans during the French and Indian
War. Joseph bought land in Colrain, lot 56 in the second division, where the
descendants of this couple lived for nearly two hundred years, in the house
that Joseph built. Since the lot was not bought until 1768, it is likely
that they stayed with Jennet's family for some years after returning to
Colrain about 1760. Jennet MC CLELLAN and Joseph THOMPSON had the
following children:
