12. Daniel WARD was born about 1732 in Grafton, Worcester, Massachusetts.52
He died on September 12, 1812 in Buckland, Franklin Massachusetts.53,54 of
Shelburne, Mass. He was a soldier of the last Indian War and stationed in
Colrain; appears to have come from Grafton.

During much of the time from 1754 to 1759, he was a soldier in the colony
forces. In 1775 he marched on teh Crown Point expedition against the French;
in 1757 he was one of those "enlisted for service on the Western Frontiers"
and who "provided their own guns"; in 1759 he joined Amherst's army for the
invasion of Canada. At other periods during 1754 to 1759 he was stationed at
Colrain, Mass., in which place he married. He is frequently recorded as
"Centinel." After the close of the French wars he moved to Ashfield, Mass.
and thence to Buckland.

He was a soldier in the French and Indian War of 1755-60, being stationed
at Colrain. At the close of the War, went to Ashfield and thence to
Buckland, settling on Clesson's River. He was married to Hannah HARROUN on
March 19, 1755 in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts.55,56
13. Hannah HARROUN was born on June 19, 1733 in Hatfield, Hampshire,

The Ward Genealogy gives his wife's name as Polly Sherwin. He
probably married a second time as in his estate paper the wife's name is
given as Harriet. From these same papers are taken the name of his children.

Thomas Phillips was the second man to settle in Ashfield, then called
Huntstown. Thomas PHILLIPS Sr. had the following children:

24. John WARD was born on February 23, 1690 in Newton, Middlesex,
Massachusetts.67 He died on May 24, 1747 in Grafton, Worcester,

Resided until after 1720 in Newton. He removed to Grafton in 1723, and
served as school teacher for many years. Was a selectman in Newton, 1707,
1712 and 1722, moving later to Roxbury, Ma and thence to Waltham, Mass., in
1737.

Upon his marriage he settled in Newton, the home of his wife's parents,
building a house in the southeasterly part of the village upn a tract of
forty-five acres belonging to his father-in-law and subsequently deeded to
him by the latter. He had learned the trade of turner and combined its
practice with farming, in time increasing his holdings to several hundred
acres. When Newton became a separate township in 1679, he was elected to its
first board of selectmen and as its first representative in the General
Court, being several times re-elected to both posts. He was also a deacon of
its first church. In 1701 he disposed of his real estate, which lay mostly
in one body. by deeds of gift to his sons. The quantity of the land given
to each was about one hundred acres. The house that John Ward built for his
bride, was later fortifed as a "garrison-house" during times of Indian
alarms. It was taken down in 1821, after having sheltered seven genearation
of Wards. He was married to Deborah.69

26. Dea. Alexander HARROUN was born about 1686 in Belfast, , Ireland.82 He
died on December 20, 1778 in Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.83 He was

Dea. Alexander Harroun came to america with two brothers, Elliot and
Jonathan, abt 1719, landing at Boston. Boston records state that he served
under Lieut. Severance's command in 1747 and 1748.
On June 3, 1741, giving his residence as Hatfield, he purchased from the
Proopietors 100 acres of land in Colrain in the first division with rights to
two lots in the second division. He settled near the Deerfield line (later
Shelburne), and the family owned that lot for sixty years. His house wass
100 rods south of the McClellan home, and was one of the three at which the
minutmen of Capt. McClellan's company gathered the night before they started
on their march to Lexington. The Deacon was a signer of the petition to
incorporate the town, one of the first committeemen "to manage the affairs of
the town" in 1742, was on the committee to "seat the meetinghouse" in 1772,
and was a selectman in 1783, the year before his death. He was respected
citizen and devout man. He was married to Catherine.85
27. Catherine was born in 1701.86 She died on July 27, 1767 in Colrain,
Franklin, Massachusetts.87 She was buried in Chandler Hill Cemetery,
Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.88
Dea. Alexander HARROUN and Catherine had the following children:
i. Ellet (Eliot) HARROUN was born on September 16, 1730 in Hatfield,
Hampshire, Massachusetts.89 Bought the south half of second division lot #38
from his father April 26, 1753; served in the French and Indian War, moved to
Cambridge, N.Y. in 1765; is in the 1790 Cambridge census 1-3-3.

iii. Capt. David HARROUN was born on January 29, 1736 in Hatfield,
Hampshire, Massachusetts.90 He was buried in May 1789 in Chandler Hill
Cemetery, Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.91 p. 17 - Inscpritons & Epitaphs

in memory of Dea. David Herroun who died 7 May 1789 in 53 year
of his age. He died on May 7, 1789.92 They owned and lived on the homelot,
and in 1770 purchased the south half of the next lot from John Anderson.
David had an extensive Revolutionary War record, was a member of the
Committee of Correspondence in 1770 and 1790 and captain of militia in 1781.
iv. John HARROUN was born on August 12, 1738.93 He died on October
18, 1819 in East White Creek, , New York.94 Resided on christian Hill, about
where the schoolhouse stood, from 1759 until 1778, when he sold this farm to
John Gragg. He was still in town for the census fo 1790, but apparently
moved to East White Creek in that year. He was a private in Capt.
McClellan's company of minutemen and was a selectman in 1775 and 1776.
v. Ruth HARROUN was born on May 18, 1741 in Hatfield, Hampshire,
Massachusetts.95
vi. Jonathan HARROUN was born in Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.

vii. Eunice HARROUN was born in 1746 in Colrain, Franklin,
Massachusetts.96 She died on June 20, 1777 in Conway, Franklin,
