FIRST GENERATION
1. Thomas BULL was born in 1610 in London, London, England.1 He died in
1684 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut.2 History of Deerfield, Volume II,

Came to N.E. 1635; removed with Hooker and his congregation to Hartford,
where he became a permanent settler; was lieut. in the Pequot War, 1637, and
in the attack on the Pequot fort; for this service the General Court gave him
100 acres of land; was a capt. in command of the fort at Saybrook in 1675,
when Andros attempted to get possession of it, and his spirted conduct on
that occasion and his bold defiance of Andros made him famous in the annals
of Conn. Inventory of estate, 1,241 pounds.
Susanna was born in 1610.3 She died in 1680 in Hartford, Hartford,

1669.6 Esther COWLES was born in 1649.7 She died on April 17, 1691 in

A brave and notable capt. of a company in King William's war; was stationed
at Northfield in the winter of 1688-9, and took sides with the people against
Andros; was at Albany the following winter, where he espoused the cause of
the Convention as against the usurper Leyster; was in command of the garrison
there.

Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut.68 He died on April 12, 1740 in Westford,

Y.C. 1723; lic. to preach at Hartford, June 1, 1725; ordained at Westfield
as colleague with Rev. Edward Taylor, Oct. 26, 1726 - sermon by William
Williams of Hatford; in 1734 was appointed by Gov. Belcher to superintend the
Indian Mission at Stockbridge, where he bap. the first Indian convert in
1735; Mr. Taylor died June 29, 1729, and Mr. Bull continued pastor until his
death, April 12, 1740; his journal and account book is in Memorial Hall.
He was married to Elizabeth PARTRIDGE (daughter of Edward PARTRIDGE) in
February 1728.70 Elizabeth PARTRIDGE was born on October 14, 1708.71

A worthy citizen of Lanesborough; dea. and esq. married but had
no children; his will is dated Aug. 1, 1814, and he died soon after; one of
his sayings relating to his nephews is preserved, and is worth preserving:
"As a man is, so is his horse; William was gentle, Oliver was violent."

39. John Partridge BULL (Nehemia-4, John-3, Thomas-2, Thomas-1) was born on
May 7, 1731 in Westford, Windham, Connecticut.97,98 He died on December 25,
1813 in Shelburne, Franklin, Massachusetts.99,100 He was buried in South

This is the first double name met in our annals; he settled in Deerfield as
a gun and lock smith; was armorer in the regt. of Col. Ephraim Williams in
the campaign of 1755, and in that of Col. Israel Williams in 1756; in 1760 he
bought 3/4 of an acre, part of the lot sequestered for the ministry and built
the house occupied by the family of the late Ephraim Williams; his shop stood
in the lane where the carriage house now stands; he died in Shelburne at the
house of his son William, 24 Dec, 1813.
He was married to Mary CATLIN (daughter of Capt. John CATLIN and Mary MUNN)
on October 5, 1758.102,103 Mary CATLIN was born on November 27, 1736.104
She died on June 7, 1781.105 John Partridge BULL and Mary CATLIN had the
