Tradition reports that the Newhall home-stead "neath the hill was erected
within a few years of 1835. If this is true their ten children were born i
the old house. It seems reasonable to believe the house may have been built
when Greaty and Nathan's eldest son, Ormand David, married in 1839.
The new house in the traditionof its period was well built. It contained
handy cupboards and three Franklin fire places. The dining room fire frame
was a classic, - high and wider than the size commonly seen. Photograph
shown on page 23.
After his death, his wife and son, Lorrin, kept the home place. His
daughter., Greaty, after the death of her husband returned with her children
(Steven and Ida) to her paternal home.

Col. Jabez Newhall was born in Conway, Mass., on the 29th of February,
1776. He was a farmer and hotel-keeper, and was in the last-named business
forty-five years. He was colonel in the State militia, and well known and
highly respected in the community in which he lived. He died on the 2d of
April, 1858. Eunice L. Tilton, his wife, was born in Conway, Dec. 25, 1786.
