Subject: [MAFRANKL] A marriage custom that can confuse us all..1600's - 1700's
Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 17:32:32 -0400
Family Bible may have one date - Church Records another and town records
another.
Jeopardy had a Q last night:
Which U S President was married to the same woman twice?
Andrew Jackson - 1791 st then "January 17, 1794"
Rachel D. Robards
"The date listed was a second ceremony as Jackson's marriage in August of
1791 to Rachel Robards turned out to be invalid."
as not sure if her divorce was cleared..
Both dates for them are recorded.

>>As is the custom of our time, when two people want to be married and there
is no church close by, a couple gathers friends to witness a man and woman
pledge their love - and they are married. The second time, we were married
in the church. So I am twice-married to the same woman.<<
