Hi Jack...
In response to your request for info concerning folks in Leverett and Sunderland, here's my suggestion. Vital event records in MA are recorded in the town in which they occurred. Land and probate records are held at the county level. For Franklin County that is Greenfield Court House and for Hampshire County that is Northampton Hall of Records. Leverett and Sunderland are in Franklin County.
My suggestion is that you contact the town clerk's office in each town for specific vital records. Bear in mind they are small towns and do not have alot of time for such research and there may be a charge, especially for an official copy of records.
For genealogical material, I'd contact the respective historical societies or vist the Memorial Libraries in Deerfield, MA. I suspect both towns have a published town history with genealogical material in them. I certainly believe Sunderland has such a book.
The Greenfield newspaper is also an excellent source of material, perhaps you may even locate an obituary, albeit a brief one depending on the year.
Franklin County, on the whole, is rich in historical material. If you are nearby, it's worth the trip to go to the specific places, even the cemeteries.
If I can be of any assistance, let me know via my email address. Good Luck
