. I have reached a point that is preventing my moving further.
My branch of the family begins in New Berlin NY with my grandfather
Clarence Green Walker, Born:1 May 1895 New Berlin NY and tracks back through
Alvin Green Walker, Born: 27 June 1867 died in New Berlin, NY
Edwin Green Walker, Born: October 1843 died in New Berlin, NY
Thomas Green Walker, Born 1816, Gill, Franklin, Mass Died in New Berlin, NY
Samuel Walker, Born 3 February 1779, Gill, Franklin, Mass married Martha
Green of Gill Mass died in Burlington, Otsego Co
William Walker, Born Dec 17, 1754 Falmouth (Portland) Cumberland Co, Maine
Married Elizabeth Stanhope
Upon reaching this point I begin to lose certainty, but it initially appears
that his father MAY have been :
George Walker who married Elizabeth Snow. However, rather than just
accepting the many family trees that seem to have conflicting information, I
have made a real effort to use primary sources to assure accuracy.
My "brick wall" comes when I get to Maine. Not being overly familiar with
the proximity of the towns and villages, especially as they have changed
since those early times, is not helping. It seems there was a lot of change,
as well as movement of people, during the era. Too, I am not overly familiar
with how best to proceed to establish something certain and definitive based
upon primary sources. Living in Atlanta, Georgia limits my own search to the
help of others and that which I can find online.
I have found various records from Falmouth and Kittery Point, but with
multiple William and George Walkers in Maine and Massachusetts, how does one
proceed with any real assuredness that they are even tracking the correct
line? Or, simply stated, how do I best proceed to establish reliable,
primary source linkages between William, George and information regarding
their predecessors. At this point, all of the many records and entries are
seeming to overwhelm.
