Cliff,

Thanks for answering my other message regarding which George Cobb married Lydia Burnett. I have researched Robert Burnett quite extensively, and have encountered some of the same questions you have. I've come to some realizations, but right now I'm not at home with my data so will have to answer some of this at another time. However, I can tell you that there is no evidence for Robert Burnett marrying a Sarah Belcher after he married Anna Wilkins. Since he married Anna when he was in his 30s (if the 1697 birth date is correct), it is possible that he had a wife before Anna. However, so far I have seen no evidence of that.

The name Sarah Belcher as a wife to Robert Burnett came from Helen Bailey Sargent's typescript from the 1950s on Robert Burnett. She did do some original research, but I've carefully read this document and it's apparent that most of the information was family lore and tradition. It's actually a very valuable source, because as far as I know, nobody else has published a genealogy of Robert Burnett that didn't just copy most of what she said, with a few additions of their own. If you have not seen this source, the Family History Library of Salt Lake City has this available on microfilm. Also, there are a few copies scattered around the country. For example, the Newberry Library in Chicago (a non-circulating library) is one of the very few libraries to whom Mrs. Sargent sent copies of this typed document.

I'm descended from Robert Burnett through his son Archibald, and then through his son Andrew, who married Lucy Burroughs. Andrew also moved to Phelps, and then was in Lyons in Franklin County. I lost track of him after 1820, and would love to know his death date and place, and that of his wife Lucy.

I will write later --
Jerilyn
