Dear Members of the Hampden County, Massachusetts Discussion Group,

Regarding Southwick Academy(?):

>From a website describing the Amherst (Massachusetts) College Class of
1837, Henry Warren Williams, who was born January 20, 1816 at Ledyard,
Groton County, Connecticut, a son of Warren Williams and Elizabeth
Stanton Gallup, received the M.A. in 1852 and the LL.D. in 1866. Dr.
Williams prepared at Bacon Academy, Colchester, Connecticut and at
Plainfield Academy, Plainfield, Connecticut.

Henry Warren Williams taught at Southwick, 1837-38 and from there, moved
to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he taught and then entered the field
of law.

Can anyone tell me more about the school or academy called "Southwick"
where Henry Warren Williams was a faculty member in 1837 and 1838? Was
it located in the town of Southwick, Hampden County, Massachusetts?

Thank you for your input!

Sincerely,

Randal W. Cooper

P.S. In a broader sense, I am interested in all of the educational
institutions that were in operation in Hampden County, Massachusetts
between 1830 and 1844. This is due to the fact that my third-great
grandfather William Cooper was an English professor at a small college
or academy in Connecticut (or possibly Massachusetts) in the 1840s,
before he migrated from New England by 1846. I am attempting to identify
the college or academy where he taught. English Professor William Cooper
might have been the same William Cooper who lived in (or near?)
Suffield, Connecticut in the 1840s and who was born June 2, 1821, a son
of Judah Paddock Cooper and Lavinia Fowler. Lavinia Fowler's mother was
Lucy Williams. Again, thank you.
