The following comes from A Century of Catholicism in Western Massachusetts,
Catholic Mirror Press, 1931.

"The first Sisters of Providence came from Kingston in 1873, and opened a
hospital and home for orphans in South Hadley, at a time when Holyoke had
neither hospital nor orphanage. They transferred their hospital to Holyoke in
1878 .... The Sisters of Providence also conduct a home for orphan girls at
Mt. St. Vincent [Ingleside, Holyoke], a home for orphan boys at
Brightside...." Not in the text but as a caption to a photo: Bethlehem Infant
Asylum, Brightside, Holyoke - One of five orphanages in the Diocese, Sisters
of Providence in charge.

The Sisters of Providence also ran a House of the Good Shepherd for "fallen
womanhood" and from the census records one can see that they also cared for
the children.
