We were in Granville yesterday, stopped at the old Granville General store and got some of their famous
cheddar cheese. Across the road is a small park and a enclosed frame a copy of the 'history' and it explains
how the documents were "lost"...apparently when someone had passed
away, their attic was "cleaned out", tooooo throughly, all VR and other records were thrown out....
hence there are little or no documentation prior to 1900 or so.
-
the old name was Bedford Plantation and changed to Granville in 1775
---------------
I checked my Corbin collection........no Fennell or any other spelling.....in Granville or
anywhere in western Massachusetts.
-------------
I checked my book "Directory of Ancestral Heads of New England Families, 1620-1700"
No Fennell listed.....(means they came after 1700 ? or were they "missed" )
----------------
"The Massachusetts Tax Evaluation List of 1771"; ............there is only ONE
--Fennill, Thomas and he was in Medfield which is in Norfolk Co.
of course it could be your Fennill/Fennell didnt own land....but it's worth checking on this Thomas
as you may get some leads.
