I am searching for information about the family of PAINE MAYHEW and his son,
LOTHROP MAYHEW in Williamsburg 1790.

According to "The History of Martha's Vineyard" by Dr Charles Banks, Vol III,
pp 298-328 on the Mayhew Family, PAINE MAYHEW, b. 16 Mar 1734 in Chilton, MA;
m. MARGARET WASS 17 Nov 1757; rem. to Chesterfield, and later to
Williamsburg abt. 1782. He died in Charlemont, MA. Their son, LOTHROP
MAYHEW, b. 31 July 1765; resided Williamsburg; m. ELIZABETH GILSON(?).
LDS-IGI records say Lothrop married ELIZABETH STRONG on 1 Dec 1793, and this
seems quite likely to me

I have not found Lothrop Mayhew in the 1790 census as a head of household
(logical if he didn't marry until 1793). But I did find the following in
Williamsburg 1790:
ZACHARIAH MAYHEW 1/5/2. (I don't know who this is.)
ARNOLD MAYHEW 1/1/1. (son of Paine)
PAINE MAYHEW 2/-/2.
WALMOT MAYHEW 1/1/1. (son of Paine).
REV JOSEPH STRONG 2/1/4.
GILESTONE STRONG 1/1/4.
EZRA STRONG 2/-/4.
(numbers are free white males age 16 & over, free white males under 16, free
white females.)
And in Goshen 1790 Census:
FREEBORN MAYHEW 1/3/3.
no Mayhews found in Chesterfield 1790 census or Norwich 1790 or Chester 1790
or Worthington 1790.

So Lothrop was possibly living with his father Paine, but not with his
brothers: Freeborn, Arnold, or Walmot. Lothrop & Elizabeth Mayhew had a son,
AMMIEL GILLSTONE MAYHEW born 17 Jan 1798, probably in Williamsburg. Ammiel
married Julia Anna Weeks 29 Jun 1821 in Norwich (now Huntington), and they
had a son, LYMAN STRONG MAYHEW born in Norwich. Considering the earlier
family pattern of naming sons for their grandmother's maiden name, it seems
quite reasonable that Lothrop married Elizabeth Strong, and that Elizabeth
was connected to Gilestone Strong of Williamsburg.

Does anyone have more information about the Mayhew and Strong families of
Williamsburg?
