Descendants of Thomas Nash of New Haven, Connecticut, 1640, Collected and
Compiled by The Rev. Sylvester Nash, A.M. Rector of St. John's Church,
Essex, Conn. Press of Case, Tiffany and Company, Hartford, Conn., 1853. p.
45.
Removed to the 3d Precinct of Hadley, (now Amherst,) perhaps, before the
birth of their last child, as that is not recorded. The precise time is not
knonw, but he was an origianl member of the Congregational Church in that
place, 7 Nov. 1739. And Hannah Nash, (probably his wife,) became a member,
1 Jan 1739-40. John Nash was Deacon of that Church and was evidently one
among the first at its organization. He was, like his father, a Blacksmith.
The date of his death is not known, but it must have been previous to
1778, for in that year his son David, then living at South Hadley, deeded
his right in the homestead of his father, deceased, in Amherst to his
brothers Jonathan and John. He is properly the head of the Amherst Branch,
and his posterity are not quite numerous.

INGRAM were married in Nov 1716.

Massachusetts. Dea. John NASH and Hannah INGRAM had the following children:
4i.Jonathan NASH.
ii.David NASH was born on 6 Jun 1719 in Amherst, Hampshire,
Massachusetts. He signed a will in 1796 in , Hampshire, Massachusetts. He
died on 26 Apr 1803 in South Hadley, Hampshire, Massachusetts. The Nash
Family or Records of the Descendants of Thomas Nash of New Haven,
Connecticut, 1640, Collected and Compiled by The Rev. Sylvester Nash, A.M.
Rector of St. John's Church, Essex, Conn. Press of Case, Tiffany and
Company, Hartford, Conn., 1853. p. 70.
Became a member of the Congregation Church in Amherst, Mass., 5 April
1741. He removed either before or shortly after his marriage to Elizabeth
Smith in 1754. His house was half a mile or more north-east of the meeting
house, in a street called Cooper lane, probably from the circumstance that
in addition to his farming operations he carried on the coopering business
there. He was a deacon of the Congregation Church, and appears to have been
a highly respected and useful man.
The inventory of his property amounted to 3,750 pounds. His wife
Experience and five children by his (1) and (2) wives were then living, viz.
Hannah, David, Jonathan, Abigail and Asa.

Birth not record, is known to have been the son of Dea. John Nash of
Amherst, from the fact that another son of Dea. John Nash of Amherst, from
the fact that another son, Dea. David Nash of South Hadley, executed a deed
of quit-claim of his right in their father's homestead in Amherst, to his
brothers Jonathan Nash and John Nash of Amherst, after their father's death
viz. in 1778.
Whe have not the date of Ensign John Nash's death, nor of the birth of
his children. His title shows that he had something to do with military
affairs, and it is known that he was a partizan of the famous Capt. Shays.
That insurrection, as it is called, and as it undoubtedly was, must not,
however, be judged by too rigid rules. Honest and upright men were on
opposite sides in that affairs, in one case, as will be seen in this Record,
brothers of the same household. There are many who, to this day, justify
that movemet, as a necessary resistance of oppression. And all agree that
it did eventually modify the action of the government.
Ensign John Nash kept a Tavern in Amherst, in his latter years. The
house stood on the place now (1850) owned by Mrs. Benjamin, a short distance
south of Amherst College. The sign is now in the possesson of Mr. William
Boltwood of Amherst. The following is the text: Drink for the Thirfty,
Food for the hungry, Lodging for the Weary, and good keeping for Horses. by
John Nash.
