I have a John McAulay(McCauley) that was in Ohio as early as 1840, this gives me a clue as to how he may have traveled
there from -possibly- Columbia co., NY. He has Franklin County connections to the Van Valkenberg, Elmer, Steele, and
Clark families. There was a Vosburg relation that went to Ohio and came back to the Halifax, Windham co VT then down
to Franklin co., MA. Edward Elmer was an original settler of Northampton, Hampshire Co., and he left for CT in the mid
1600's.

I've some Comstock, Bennett, Johnson connections that had settled Oswego co., NY by 1830 (possibly from CT & RI), then
left upstate New York to settle in Ohio, Nebraska by 1856 and 1860. This article gave me a clue as to where the
Comstock family may have heard of the first name DeWitt,
