Dear Bill,
I have a John Carter, of Woburn, or Stoneham, Mass. who was a private in the
F&I wars. Others have him at the CrownPoint expedition about 1756
I'm wondering if on your next trip to the archives you could take a look for
him.He may have been with a Captain Peabody.

Hi
I found the following:
In "Massachusetts Officers & Soldiers in the F & I Wars, 1755-1756" edited by
K. David Goss and David Zarowin
taken from the Mass. Atchives, Vol 94-B
John CARTER, pvt, 20 yrs, b Woburn, res Stocham, engagement (by imputation):
Fort Wm Henry, company: Capt Wm Peabody, rgt: Col. Plaisted, Volunteer,
present & fit, pg 395.
The order of engagements for that geographic area were Crown Point, Fort
Edward, First Battle of Lake George & construction of Fort Wm Henry, Ft
Edward, Crown Point, Fort Wm Henry (destroyed), Fort Carillion (Abercrombie
lost to Montcalm), Fort Carillion (Ticonderoga) (Montcalm evacuated and
burned before Lord Jeffrey Amhurst), Montreal, Quebec.
In the text "mass officers in the F & I Wars, 1748-1763", edited by Nancy S.
Voye
she has three listings for John CARTER
CARTER, John Capt, Lancaster, 1757, rgt: Col Oliver Wilder
CARTER, John Maj.-Capt, Lancaster Co., 1761, Cp; Oliver Wilder
CARTER, John Lt Col, 1761
there are a number of PEABODYs listed--Frances, James, John, Joseph, Oliver
**********most likely is the following
Capt Wm PEABODY, Middleton, Ft Wm Henry, 1756, Aug, rgt Plaisted
*****************
unfortunately, Robt E. MacKay in his "Mass Soldiers in the F & I Wars,
1744-1755", lists possibly all Crown Point engagement:
John CARTER from Rehobeth, Capt Philip Wheeler's company
John CARTER Cambridge Rgt, Col Wm Brattle
John CARTER from Boston , Capt Thos Stoddard (could Henry Stoddard RUGGLES
have descended from him??)
John CARTER , Capt Moses Desham
John CARTER
John CARTER Col Jacob Wendell
Company commanders are Captains, rgt commanders are Colonel
Hope this helps you, maybe someone on one of the other lists also.
if anyone is descended from any of these veterans, please get back in touch
with me as I am attempting to sort the participants by the engagements.
Bill
