What are the law regarding getting a copy of or looking up information on birth certificates? My grandmother which is still living found out that she was adopted by her birth mothers brother and wife just recently. She has a copy of her birth certificate that names her uncle and wife as her parents. What could I find for documentation that her birth mother had her? She was born in Westbrook on January 17, 1920. She was told by daughters of her birth mother after the funeral of her father/uncle. One said that when she went to get a work permit that it showed my grandmothers name as her mothers first child, and when she asked her mother about it, she told her not to tell her until after the mother and father died. The birth mother was pregnant out of wedlock. I guess I need suggestions on what I should look up when I go to the Westbrook town office and does my grandmother have to be present as she is still alive? Thanks
