Hi, Nancy.

Where you should go depends on what you're trying to
do. Are you searching for recent vital records? Old
vital records? Probate records? Census records?
Deeds? For roughly what time periods? What parts of
Massachusetts?

I can't really speak for NEHGS, but you can search
their library catalog online for some clues -- they're
probably your best bet for family histories and town
histories, and I understand they have a lot of other
material as well -- but I have spent time at both NARA
and the Massachusetts Archives, so I can perhaps give
you a little bit of guidance on what you can find in
those two places. I'd be happy to help.
