Subject: [MAINE] Rev. John URQUHART

> I am new to this list and am researching Rev. John URQUHART. He arrived in Warren, Maine in 1774 to be the pastor of their
church, The Church of Scotland. I come down through his second wife Mary McIntyre's daughter Sarah born about 1786 in Maine. Sarah
married John Alexander Campbell about 1805 on Prince Edward Island. I am also interested in John URQUHART's first wife, Jane, they
had 1 child, what happened to Jane and child after John and Mary moved to PEI?

As I mentioned in another message, there is a bio of John in the Dictionary of
Miramichi biography. Regarding first wife Jane, she suddenly showed up at
Union River about 1785 and kicked out second wife Mary. When she was
unsuccessful at winning back John's affection she took him to court and was
awarded his farm. By 1790 he was out of his ministry position due to complaints
against him, which had plagued him since 1784. In 1800 he became a missionary
at PEI and in 1802 moved to Miramichi where he became their first regular
Presbyterian minister. There is no evidence that the first daughter ever came
to America with mother Jane.

Sharyn
