Paul,
Are you sure you have the same family in Minnesota and Maine? If I read
your notes right, the marriage took place in MN in November and the
first child was born in ME in December of the same year, 1857. Not
unheard of, but it seems unlikely. There is a Magline Cote living in
Plymouth in Hennepin Co, MN in 1860. He is 29 and born in Canada. Wife
is Anastasie and they have a daughter, Cesarine, who is one. There are
Huots living next door and 2 houses away. So this is your MN family, but
I don't believe that they had a son Joseph in ME in 1857.
I did some searching in censuses and the only Joseph Cote that I can
find born in that time frame with a wife named Emma was born in Canada,
not ME They have a son, Arthur, born about 1900.
Goyette is a name from Nova Scotia and traces back to Jean Goyetche, b.
abt 1763 in Bayonne France. He lived in Arichat on Isle Madame, which is
an island off the south coast of Cape Breton. My g-g-grandmother was a
Goyetche from Isle Madame. If you do not belong to that listserv
already, I can send you the info privately. It is not a rootsweb list.
There are Cote families from Cape Breton and other parts of Nova Scotia.
Based on my own family research, I think it is much more likely that
your Cotes are from Nova Scotia than Quebec > Minnisota > Maine. I
would be happy to give you a hand with this family.
