Bill,

After doing a bit of "fiddling" I think you will find the following website
will clarify that your Kierstead ancestor was, in fact, from Schenectady, NY.

http://www.hopefarm.com/schenec1.htm

If you read down through the history, the founder of Schenectady was a Arendt
Van Cutler/Corlear - a "man so respected" that the governors of New York were
addressed as "corlear." You will also find that Schenectady was under
atttack during the Indian Wars in January/February of 1690.

On another website (I did a google search of the Kierstead surname +
Schenectady, NY), it brought me to the Olive Tree website and down the page is a
marriage of a Hans Kierstead to a Sarah (Lana) Roeloffson - she was born on 3
December 1630.

Hope this might help.

Jan
