Subject: [MAINE] [N-S} Grand Turk - Elligood MILLS
Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2007 04:08:10 -0700 (PDT)

Hello --

I am seeking record verification of Elligood's prison time in Halifax from 1777 to 1782.

During the Revolutionary War, Elligood Mills was an officer of the Privateer Grand Turk, taken prisoner by the British and held at a Halifax prison from 1777 to 1782. He was first married to Mary Dyer, and 2nd wife was Lucy McLucas. He died in Waterborough, ME 6 Jan 1832, and is buried at Elder Gray Cemetery.

His Kennebunk Gazette obituary of 14 Jan 1832 makes reference to this incident, as well as the Morning Star, Limerick, on 6 Jan 1832; however, I have been unable to trace records of his containment in Halifax, such as where he was kept prisoner.

Would anyone know if it is possible to search British records, and if so, where would I begin?

Thanks for any help.
Sherry
