Subject: [MAINE] KIDDER in Hancock County
Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 08:39:09 -0500
Hello,
Someone on another List has mentioned the Town of Gouldsboro, and that
reminded me of the KIDDER family I am interested in.
I just checked the archives of the Hancock Co. List, and it appears I
haven't asked about this family in 2 years. So, I'd like to mention the
KIDDER's now.
The family I am interested in is that of Joseph "Lewis" KIDDER and Emma
YOUNG and their descendants. I'm told that their son, Lewis Estes KIDDER
was born in Gouldsboro in 1905. And, he married Evangeline ABBOTT and
had 12 children.
I'm told "Lewis" and Lewis KIDDER had many descendants, and for maybe 50
years there was a "family reunion" in Hancock County. The event only
stopped ~1990.
(Joseph "Lewis" KIDDER was a first-cousin of my great-grandfather, George
"Sanford" KIDDER (1870-1943). "Lewis" was one of 2 children of Jonathan
/ John KIDDER of Princeton and Calais, ME, from his 2nd marriage. He had
5 children with his first wife. I have never been able to find all of the
children as a adults.)
I believe 2 years ago I wrote to the Town Clerk in Gouldsboro (or a
bordering town) and was told that a "genealogy search" for the records in
their office would involve a cost. I don't remember that I followed
through with that.
When I reviewed what I said in my posting to the Hancock Co. List in Mar.
2006, I was reminded that Lewis KIDDER died in 1994 and he was buried in
Franklin, ME. I had wanted to find out where the widow, Mrs. Jane
KIDDER, had been buried. I believe I had found out when she died, but I
don't see it in my notes at the moment. Her son, Joseph "Lewis" KIDDER
was still in Gouldsboro in 1920.
* It has just occurred to me that maybe there would have been a "death
notice" or obituary in the newspapers for Mrs. Jane KIDDER. And, perhaps
such an obituary might mention which of her children and step-children would
have been alive at the time of her death.
Thank you for your time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
(For newcomers to List, I have been posting queries about the KIDDER's in
Maine for about 7 years. So, there is a lot of information in the
archives of the Lists.)
