Subject: [MAINE] Ancestors Who Moved to Canada

Hello,

I know that many people on the Lists in New England have ancestors who
migrated to Canada. This could have been in the 1700's or all through the
1800's. And, many of you know that the 1901 and 1911 census reports are
now available on-line for Canada.

What I'd like to mention is that a very helpful researcher has been posting
information from the 1901 and 1911 censuses on the "British Home Children"
List. What he is posting is the "home child" and the family he or she
went to live with. And, this could have been in any Province !

So, if you have an ancestor living in Canada between 1890's to 1920's, for
example, you might want to search the archives of the BHC List for the
surnames you are researching. You might be pleasantly surprised.

FYI:
My KIDDER ancestor left southern NH in 1783 and went to Nova Scotia,
settling in what became New Brunswick.
My RICE ancestor left MA for ME and spent a few years in Nova Scotia,
returning to ME ~1800.
My LEWIS / CORKILL great-grandparents were "British Home Children" -
arriving in Nova Scotia ~1874.
My KERR / HENDERSON ancestors arrived in Canada in 1823.
(All had a descendant come down to MA.)
