Richard Newton was one of the petioneers for Marlborough and the families of
that name were numerous in the township. He came from England, was in
Sudbury 1640 and was made freeman 1645. His land was in the southerly part
of the town, and on the division of the township, fell into what was
Southbough, where his descendants have generally resided. He probably had
two wives, Anne and Hannah. Hannah his last wife, d. Dec 5, 1697; he d. Aug
24, 1701 "aged about 100 years".
With-in my site, The History of Marlborough I will be adding the NEWTON
Genealogy as it relates to Marlborough, the Vital Records of Sudbury for
NEWTON and the Vital Records of Marlborough for NEWTON.
Moses Newton is mentioned in a story of an Indian attack on Marlborough; see
it here
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~historyofmarlborough/indianattack1676
.htm
Be sure to check out the "early records of Marlborough", for here is
mentioned "Richard Newton" as early as July 28, 1657. There are more pages
with a referrence to NEWTON.
Here is one page where his name appears:
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~historyofmarlborough/record3to6.htm#C
OLONIAL
I believe you will find the early NEWTONS buried in Southboro. The cemetery
is on Rt. 85 between Marlboro and Southboro.
Part of Southborough came from Marlborough 1727 and part came from
Framingham 1786. There are many referrences to NEWTONs in the Framingham,
Ma. vital records.
Also..........Westborough came from Marlborough 1717 (Chauncy Section)
Be sure to look at the entire site, it starts at
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~historyofmarlborough/
One more thing. There will be a CD available soon with pictures of every
gravestone (including an index and transcriptions) in the Old Common,
Springhill, Weeks, Wilson, Brigham, Rocklawn (part of which has the Chipman)
and Robin Hill cemeteries that may be of interest to NEWTON reseachers.Over
3,000 images.
I hope this helps out.
............john
